Solar Irrigation
Kenya
Aspectus Kenya delivers industrial-grade off-grid solar solutions tailored to heavy consumers — lowering operating costs and improving reliability.
Aspectus Kenya designed and installed an 80 kWp grid-tied solar PV system in Timau, Meru County to power irrigation systems and farm operations. The project integrates efficient PV arrays with automated pumps, ensuring reliable irrigation while exporting surplus power to the grid.
The installation has resulted in approximately 30% higher crop yields through consistent solar-powered irrigation and reduced dependence on diesel. The farm now enjoys predictable operating costs, improved water-use efficiency, and sustainable productivity growth.
The project included detailed site surveys, solar design and engineering, procurement of equipment, installation, grid integration, and commissioning. The scope also covered training of farm technicians and implementing a monitoring platform for system performance.
After implementation, the Timau farm achieved consistent irrigation coverage and reduced operating costs by replacing diesel pumping with clean solar power. Crop productivity increased by an average of 30% during the first season, while the system’s grid-tied design ensured reliability and scalability for future farm expansion.
The project demonstrates how solar irrigation can enhance agricultural resilience and profitability for Kenyan farms facing high energy and water challenges.
